Open Call for Pastoral Twilight Residency Programme 2025
Art organisation operating in rural environment – Are | are-events.org (ARE), Czechia, invites artists and researchers to apply for the 2025 residency programme as part of the Pastoral Twilight project which is held in collaboration with the organisations BAU (Italy) and INLAND (Spain). The residency will relate to the specific rural location and activities of the organisation. Thematically, it will be linked by exploring the topics of pastoralism and regenerative agricultural practices and sustainable education.
A month-long residency will host an international artist/researcher to explore the ecosystem of the local meadow and forest, and to take part in the on-going permaculture practice of the Woods – Community for Cultivation, Theory, and Art project.
The residency stay will take place at Woods site, an open space of the meadow and forest land between the villages of Písečná and Hnátnice in Orlické Mountains (Czechia) in April 2025.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The criteria for selecting the resident artist/researcher is their interest in engaging in the collective development of a permaculture garden, orchard, or working with animals on the pasture. This connection between artistic practice and theory is one of the main missions of the Woods project, which it aims to cultivate further through the residency programme.
We encourage artists/researchers from Ukraine to apply.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
Artist/researcher will receive a monthly stipend, and travel costs and accommodation will be covered. An additional budget will be provided for the production of events and presentations during the residency.
Accommodation is provided in a tiny house on wheels located on the meadow, equipped with a double bed, desk and dining table. The tiny house contains a kitchen with a stove and a bathroom with running cold and hot water powered by solar system. The dry toilet is located outdoors. The nearest village Písečná, with a supermarket and a pub, is a 30-minute walk or a 15-minute bike ride away.
The property includes a stable with animals – two goats and seven sheep – with a grazing pen on the meadow. There is an orchard with fruit trees and shrubs, as well as vegetable beds.
